Melbourne Cup hero in doubt for Doomben Cup
One of the headline acts of this year's Doomben Cup will need to pass a race-morning veterinary inspection before being cleared to take his place in the race.
Half Yours was deemed to be mildly lame by Queensland's racing vets when inspected on Friday morning.
The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained gelding's place in Saturday's $1 million Group 1 at Doomben hinges on passing further veterinary testing prior to 7.30am on Saturday.
"Please be aware that following a pre-race veterinary trot up this morning Half Yours was found to have mild lameness in the right hind leg," QRIC said in a statement released on Friday.
"Half Yours will undergo a further examination tomorrow morning prior to scratching time."
The 2000-metre Doomben Cup is scheduled to be the third-up run for Half Yours, last year's Melbourne Cup hero.
The five-year-old son of St Jean resumed with a ninth placing in the All Aged Stakes (1400m) before a fourth placing in the Hollindale Stakes (1800m).
He held down the second line of betting at the time that Friday's news broke, marginally behind Hollindale Stakes winner Pride Of Jenni and just in advance of Birdman.
